Tongs

Tongs

Tongs are used to handle coils. Tongs comprise a frame and two arms.

The frame is made of two welded metal plates. Between the side pieces, there are systems in which sliding arms are placed. The movement of the arms and the rotation of the tongs around the vertical axis are controlled by two electric gearboxes placed on the upper part of the frame that operate chain wheels by chain movement.

The arms of the tongs are welded from sheet metal and U pipes so as to form a closed cross-section. The upper parts of the arms are placed in the tongs frame where they slide. The lower parts of the arms are used to attach loads (coils). The end positions of the arms (sliding in and out) are locked with limit switches.

In the vertical parts of the arms, there are tipping levers installed. These are connected to the limit switches that switch off the clamping of the tongs in the case of a contact with the side of the carried load (coil). The clamping of the arms is signalled by warning lights.
